Solipsism : Unimaginable concept of nothingness
Imagine a moment when you are dreaming that you are a butterfly and you are flying from one place to another. You suddenly awaken from your dream and realize it was only a dream. But a question arises in your mind when you are flying like a bird in your dreams: is it really a dream or are you dreaming now? How can you prove that you are a man dreaming you are a butterfly and not a butterfly dreaming you are a man? Can you disprove the notion that you are a butterfly dreaming of being a man? Obviously no, because we can't prove that the world we live in is real or is just an illusion. We can't prove that everything in this world is real because our consciousness can't go beyond our senses; we only see what our senses pick up and what our minds make of it. There is a possibility that you simply created the world you know, and it exists only in your mind. The people around you can be just your imagination because you can't go beyond your mind to their mind. You can't see the world from their perspective. You can't feel what they feel.
Now there might be a question that is popping up in your mind: if everything around you is just your imagination, then how can you say that you are real? It is because you can sense that your mind exists. You are asking, "Do I exist?" Once, the philosopher Descartes said, "I think, therefore I am". It means that although everything could be an illusion, the only certain thing is that you exist. You could be in a world of illusion; even your thoughts could be an illusion, but what isn't an illusion, therefore, is for someone to experience them. If you do not really exist, then why is there an illusionary world in your mind? You exist, and your mind exists, which is why you can experience the illusionary world through your minds. This is the core of solipsism that only you exist and everything around you is just your imagination.
In summary, solipsism invites us to ponder the nature of reality and how we perceive it. Although we can't prove if the world around us is real or just a product of our imagination, we can be confident in our own consciousness. The fact that we can think, question, and reflect on our existence serves as proof of our being. While the true nature of reality may remain elusive, we can find purpose and significance in our personal experiences within our own minds.
